RESERVATIONS ARE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED

RESERVATION POLICY
Our reservation policy is intended to be fair to all of our guests, yet prevent loss of income to our business and to our wait staff.  We believe that it is professional for us to share our reservations policies and the reasons for our policies.  With only 50 seats in our main dining rooms, our business and the tip income of our staff depends on advance reservations.   Cancellations can be costly especially to our professional servers that rely on your reservation and gratuity.

We accept  reservations  at the restaurant for dates  in the current and for the next proceeding month by phoning (978)779-9816.   However, since we are only available to answer your call one hour before and after our normal hours of operation, the best method of making a reservations for 5 or fewer people is online at

Since our guest often make reservations at J's in advance, it is not always possible to fill late cancellations.  As a result, for reservations of six people or more we require a deposit, by credit card, of $25 per person for all reservations.   The deposit is not refundable unless the reservation is cancelled more than twenty-four hours ahead.

As a small intimate restaurant catering to romantic evenings and celebrations,  it is important to preserve the ambiance and quality of our restaurant for all of our guests.  The attributes that make us quaint, cozy and romantic also  limit our ability to accommodate large parties.  In order to insure the experience of J's  for all of our guests, we do not take reservations for tables on the porch for more than 6 people or in  the main dining area for parties of more than 8 people.

As a result, reservations are very limited for larger groups.   When available and provided other reservations are not already taken, larger groups of up to 14 people can be accommodated in our Gallery Room  or up to 10 people in the Winemakers Room.   We may have to stipulate additional reservation guidelines and menu modifications to professionally  accommodate your reservation.

For special days, such as Mother's Day,  Father's Day or Easter Sunday, we do not take reservations for tables on the porch for more than 6 people or in the main dining area for parties of more than 8 people as it is important to preserve the ambiance and quality of our restaurant for all of our guests.   Reservations for parties of 6 and 8 are very limited by the size of our restaurant.  We also do not take request for separate reservations at adjoining tables as it is impossible to coordinate tables becoming available at the same time.   While this might exclude some of our valuable customers who wish to entertain their entire family, we hope there is an appreciation and understanding of the special character and charm of J's that we attempt to preserve.  Reservations for these days are usually limited to service of one and one-half hour.

We do not accept reservations of parties with more than 14 people.  Please refer to our functions page for details about hosting a large party.   We also do not accept reservations for a number of smaller parties, at the same time with tables in the same area to accomplish the goal of circumventing our policies.

We only assign tables immediately before service based on staffing, reservations and the number people the reservation is made for.  While we will note on your reservation a  specific request for a specific table we do not guarantee any table or seat.   Your request will be given the highest attention possible but requests, especially for late reservations, are often impossible to accomplish.

We do not take reservations for our outside patio area as weather conditions are unpredictable.  Our outside tables, when being used, are on a first request basis to our host.  Advance reservations will not be accepted for the outside dining area.
